Don’t get too excited…
This was a logo designed for my sister-in-law’s private pastry and confectionary catering biz… she and a friend, another chef, be the two chicks in the name. Anyway, this was the logo:
It was borne from the idea that having two chicks hanging out was indicative of implying individuality, whereas they are providing a service as a team. Problem was, they wanted their seperate contact info ont heir cards, so I wanted a way to bridge the two of them together… so I decided to put the chicks in a single egg…
Here’s the roughs:
ANd here’s the final card. Don’t bother pointing out that the email address format convention isn’t appropriate for a business card. It was the way they wanted it. Anyway, I liked how it came out! It was well received…

TRDL Original Team: Intruders
09/10/06

I did this pic for fun, when Thom invited me in, as kind of a celebration of the fact that I’d be having my own characters joining the TRDL comics universe.
This is an original TRDL superteam, the Intruders.
Not much is known about this team’s objectives or motivations. As for the designation of the team, they were baptized “The Intruders” by the press, after their first known public appearance, which involved an altercation with America’s prime superteam and national protectors, the government-backed Liberty Group. This encounter between the two teams turned into a battle of tragic proportions, which would change both teams forever. But you’ll be reading more about this soon!
The Intruders are (from left to right), Material Girl, Code Red, Morphine, Baby Boom and Jungle. You’ll be getting more information about each individual character, like background, powers and game stats, in the near future.
You can see this illustration herein the TRDL Universe Gallery.

Fonts!
05/10/06
I was talking with Vlad about a font he was using in a project, and realized I’ve never posted any font resources here since we started this category.
I’ll just start with a few of the more comics-specific font sources:
Blambot! offers a great selection of free fonts for your personal, non-fee projects, as well as a number of solid pay fonts for commercial work. I use a few of these myself, and am considering two from here as I narrow down my FInit-e font…
Comicraft I believe only has pay fonts, but they have good values in bulk fontpacks for sound effects and so on.
And of course, you can sift through the big font databases in search of stuff you can use, though it’s a chore looking for comic fonts. I have probably 3,500 fonts total (not all active, naturally) most from these sites, used for my non-comics graphics work like party ads and what not.
A note about free fonts: often, they are spaced a little too generously, so if you want to get really precise about the look, you will need to do some adjustment to kerning and spacing to make everything look right. Anyone with typesetting experience will tell you that it’s actually quite an involved process, getting it to look RIGHT, but for me, I don’t do all that much… mostly just swap out font styles for certain number + letter combinations.
Lastly, you can always build your own font. I looked at this several years ago, but despite my architectural lettering experience, I liked the available fonts better than my own writing, so.
If you have comic font sites you want to share, post em! And any favorite fonts specifically, let it be known?… Read on for more awesome…
