This was done for the VGS Group, which focuses on the babes featured in videogames. The game here was American McGee’s Alice in Wonderland, which is a gothic take on the classic story. Uncomfortable with drawing little Alice in a compromising position, I aged her forward, and went for mildly suggestive instead of something more randy. I actually think it’s kind of a shame that it’s suggestive at all, because people really respond to the composition and detail that don’t otherwise particularly have interest in erotic art. This one isn’t erotic enough to be erotic art, but not tame enough to be truly general audience friendly. That said, I really like alot of the details with the hosiery and blushery going on here, and I would revisit the foliage framing device again and again in the future… so there you go!

Code Red is a member of the renegade posthuman team, the Intruders.
Concept, Design and Art: Joao Marques
Background: Joao Marques and Thom Chiaramonte

Name: Markos Van Zandt
Affiliation: The Intruders

Melee: 20
Reflex: 30
Muscle: 10
Vigor: 30
Acumen: 30
Observation: 10
Will: 40
Life: 90
Influence: 80
Abilities:
Shape-casting: Code Red wields shape-casting abilities, generating hard-light fields of crimson energy, which can be formed into solid objects extending from his core, used offensively or defensively. They can be used as shields, tools and weapons, with moderate range [10 RV] and resistance to damage as described below. Any shape that Code Red imagines can be created with an Action based on it’s relative size and complexity (up to 2x or half the size of his body, Yellow; up to 6x the size of his body, or tiny, visible objects, Orange; massively out of scale objects or forms, or sub-visible shapes, Red. Multiple objects, add -1Cs to Ability Intensity for purposes of Action, for every subsequent object.) Being sustained by Van Zandt’s willpower, a breach through the hard-light shields or objects can cause a serious psychological backlash, leading to disorientation and exhaustion. The resistance of these shapes to a breach is by Ability Intensity [40 IV] but is reduced by -1CS for each object being simultaneously cast. If a shape takes more damage than Code Red’s Ability Intensity, he must make a Will Save. A successful Save allows him to cast another shape at next round; a failure requires a Stun/Shock Save or Van Zandt loses consciousness for 1-10 rounds. The generation of these fields also takes a considerable toll on him, and after prolonged use of his abilities, Van Zandt must rest and recuperate his mental and physical strength, equal to 4 hours of rest per shape … Read on for more awesome…

Third Rail Design Lab has been given a new look! I have rebuilt the illustration site to perform enhancements in the way the content is managed and navigated by users. It is my hope that the new gallery system will allow for a more interactive and entertaining browsing experience for guests perusing for comic art. All illustrations have been integrated with the R3 Forum for better comment threading, so you can click the
icon wherever it’s found to comment directly in the forum. And frankly, it’s just easier to find stuff to look at.
The site is broken into three main sections, reflecting the Third Rail iconography: TRDL Universe, Finit-e and Tribute. TRDL Universe is dedicated to our expanding collection of original characters, stories and game materials set in the TRDL Original Universe. As we continue to draw and design, we will be offering much more in this area, including sequential art stories. Finit-e is my graphic serial and the Tribute section is dedicated to mainstream, franchise or miscellaneous illustration content. The TRDL Store has been opened for public access, offering aesthetically-pleasing, in other words fly, garments and sundries in the TRDL style.
I’m most proud of the release of the first Scene of Finit-e, my graphic serial. The comic can be read through a viewer in high-res and low-res formats, directly from the Third Rail Design Lab. It can also be downloaded in print-quality PDF format for those that wish to have a tangible reading experience. Finit-e is a very large story and will be told Scene by Scene, each one added to the site in it’s entirety in full-color. Those that wish to be notified immediately of new Scenes can either watch for updates in the TRDL News log for the latest news, or subscribe to the mailing … Read on for more awesome…

TRDL Tribute: Speed Racer
19/11/06

This was done for the This Week Jam: the subject, Speed Racer!
I don’t think it’s much of a surprise that I put Speed in a MINI Cooper S, right? He may not win the race, but he’ll look good going around corners rally-style. This is also one of my favorite monkeys drawn.
You can see the illustration herein the TRDL Tribute Gallery.

TRDL Illustration Comments FAQ
19/11/06
What’s with all these threads, you ask?
It’s going to be jarring, you’re first time logging in and hitting “View Latest Posts” and seeing 300 or so threads from me. Fret not, as they will soon disappear from your radar. Here’s the logic:
Each image in TRDL v2.0′s image viewer has a
button in it’s view window. Each of those sends the viewer to the thread for the character. Now, many of these characters predate the forum, so R3 members may browse the new site and find art they haven’t seen before. But many, on the other hand, you HAVE seen, and commented already. So why new threads? I will be gradually combining existing threads with these new links to integrate the existing forum content in the new structure.
All you have to do is click through from the TRDL site to comment here.
Have fun browsing the new site!

You can now show your TRDL pride by wearing the brand! Cultivate a secret pride in knowing that no one is going to know what it all means…
There are a small number of TRDL Brand items available, with many more to come. Initially, I’m simply offering the smart TRDL + R3 logo. On black, it has a sweet white piping border.
Some very excellent #1 good products for your consideration include:
TRDL R3 Black T: This shirt came out quite nice. You get to choose what system of image transfer you want when you place your order. The image above is ‘Direct Printing’ as opposed to ‘Heat Transfer’. It allows for longevity in the wash because it’s been infused into the weave. The alternative, Heat Transfer, is the familiar applique that’s glossier and bright but fades over time. We recommend the Direct Printing method. You can read more about these here. This shirt is technically also available in maroon, military green and blue, so you have options! Sweet, sweet options. It also comes in long sleeve, and both are available for men and women.
TRDL R3 White Baby-Doll T: This one is fitted and very cute. The model is pretty gorgeous, too. Anyway, if this style doesn’t suit you, there are others on the site, listed below.
TRDL R3 Massive Mug: This is the best mug EVER. It’s two-coffees tall, heavy and glossy. I’d use it every day if I could. Most days, I do.
TRDL License Plate Frame: Want to display your TRDL pride on your Aesthetically-Pleasing Automobile? Now you can, while simultaneously educating and entertaining your local law enforcement under difficult citation processes, with this smart frame. "What is Finit-e?" at the top there. Don’t know? Better get readin’!

21st Sentry is a member of the premiere US nationally-subsidized posthuman team, the Liberty Group.

Attributes:
Melee: 40

Muscle: 30
Vigor: 50
Acumen: 20

Will: 10

Powered Armor: The 21st Sentry powered armor offers state-of-the-art surveillance and recording systems with sensors across visual, auditory, radiation and ultra-spectrum ranges with 50 Intensity and Range. It is capable of detecting, relaying and recording sensory data from it’s own equipment as well as a minimally-delayed feed from satellite coverage across the US government’s domestic duty satellite array, allowing for remote surveillance. In addition, the armor offers considerable resistance from physical and energy-based attacks [40 AP], and offers enhanced strength and impressive response times for an exo-skeletal system of its type, reflected in the Attributes above. The suit’s internal power core, capable of powering the armor and sustaining the recirculated life support system on-board for 96 hours before recharging, emits a low-frequency throbbing auditory emission, audible several meters away in normal operating conditions. It can be quieted in Silent Running operation at a significant reduction of suit performance and power supply (25% reduction.) The armor also carries a small array of short-range rockets (Quantity: 8; fired in groups of 2, up to full compliment; Melee Action to lock onto target, -1CS if moving, -2CS if target AND wearer are moving, damage: 4d10 per rocket) and a 25mm pivot gun in a concealed cowl (Melee Action to aim; damage: 3d10 per round of use; 8 rounds of ammunition.)

The FInit-e graphic serial is available online through a web-based reader, or through PDF downloads. The web reader allows for some dynamic content, including alerts when new characters are added to the Character Matrix, and links to the Annotations and Comments sections for each Scene. The PDFs allow for more control over viewing size and printed output.
You may download, read and print these PDFs, but not reproduce them for personal gain or misrepresent them as your own work. I hope, if you like what you see, you’ll come visit Third Rail Design Lab at www.thirdraildesignlab.com and check out the rest of the work, and come say hello on the forum.
Finit-e is published Scene by Scene, so individual Scenes are provided in stand-alone PDFs and a single composite PDF captures all published Scenes to date.
Please let me know if you have any problems…

So, a little clarification, mainly for those that read the comic on-line.. in the web-based comic reader, there is a string of buttons to the left, including comment, download, return to TRDL, etc. but also, this one:
which opens the Finit-e Character Matrix in a separate window. It starts almost entirely blank. But if you count those silhouettes, you can see there’s a lot more to come.
As a character with some significance appears in the story, you will see this icon appear in the comic reader:

Which sends you back to the Character Matrix, to discover a new character has been added… so as the comic progresses, more and more of the matrix will be filled in.
Additionally, I have goodies to share on each character, which are links from the pics in the matrix online. They send you to each Dossier located here int he forum. These dossiers are expanded with more content as you read more about the characters…

This is the much belated Annotations file for Finit-e: Scene 01.
:::
Anyone who has read my posts on the TRDL R3 Forum knows that I like those extras: easter eggs, behind-the-scenes stuff, backgrounds, what didn’t make the cut, references, etc. So it should be of no surprise that I have written annotations for this comic as I go. I hope you find some of this of interest! I have commented on individual panels in sequential order, with the bottom-most panels being called ‘pB’ as this is actually a different narrative path than the story occurring above. Each chapter of Finit-e is a Scene, as if you were watching a film. Some are longer than others.

Finit-e is entirely thumbnailed and outlined, with some chapters fully scripted, and others just a collection of notes and comments about story. Though it shrinks, enlarges, and re-orders itself over time here and there as I play with it, at one point I had all the pages pinned up on the walls of my studio space in my old loft. Made me feel like I was making progress, allowed me to pull pages out of sequence and move the order around, delete certain pages or mark up panels… anyway, here and there I’ll show you thumbnails from certain pages or panels, if I like them. Often, I’ll have thumbnailed a given panel or page two or three times: once in the overall draft of all pages thumbed out, another time as I’m tightening up the page in question, and again as I work out details of the panels…
