Nadir is a member of the sensationalist terror group Fingers of Hirabah.
Concept and Design Thom Chiaramonte
:::
Nadir
Name: Hamir Mohammed Farouk Zivie
Affiliation: Fingers of Hirabah
Attributes:
Melee: 40
Reflex: 30
Muscle: 30
Vigor: 30
Acumen: 30
Observation: 20
Will: 20
Life: 130
Influence: 70
Abilities:
Sword of Smiting: While Nadir does not possess any posthuman abilities himself, he has trained extensively in fighting techniques and has developed considerable athletic competency. He wields an antique ceremonial scimitar which has been hardened and modified by a black weaponslab to carry a monocel™ edge, offering an astounding degree of sharpness, effectively cutting armor as if it were butter (Ignores Body Armor, edged damage [20 DP], triple damage on Attacks yielding a Red Cell, representing a critical strike.)
Origin:
Hamir Mohammed Farouk Zivie is the firstborn son of an Egyptian religious leader, Malikan Ali, a prominent speaker and member of the Sunni educational leadership. His mother, Marie Marillier, was a French-born aid worker, employed by the United Nations, who had been stationed in Egypt after the October 1973 war with Israel, helping to establish a network of shelters and clinics along the Suez. Malikan and Marie met when Marie attended one of Malikan’s lectures in Cairo, and became enamored with the charismatic speaker’s intensity and passion for cultural diversity and tolerance. Their marriage caused Malikan considerable political trouble among the Sunni leadership, and fueled his rivals’ continuing efforts to discredit him, as his progressive views of the Sunni faith, and his increasing support of feminism in the Muslim world, were contrary to the more conservative values of his political opponents.
In a pre-dawn raid, Egyptian Special Forces Unit 777 employed paramilitary troops to infiltrate Malikan’s family compound, detaining servants and surrounding the speaker in his central courtyard, where he had been … Read on for more awesome…

TRDL Tribute – Kim Possible
21/02/07

This piece was done for the This Week Jam, the character being Disney’s Kim Possible.
I’ve never seen the show, but ever since I saw the first character design sheets online a number of years ago, i was struck by the strong design, the energy, the cool factor and the bitchin’ colors. I can’t believe I haven’t gotten around to drawing her until now. Sure, I’ve drawn Kim in my usual TRDL style here, aged forward and extra confident, but I tried to give it some contextual flavor with nemesis Shego and Monkey Fist present.

TRDL Tribute – Wasp
21/02/07

This piece was done for the This Week Jam, the character being Marvel’s Wasp.
Joao’s contribution to the This Week Jam is astounding for one very simple reason (well, many, but one specifically resonates for me:) I always had a mental image of Janet Van Dyne as being that hottie girlfriend/wife character that’s incredibly sexy and gorgeous, but you hardly even know it, because there are flashier, tramped up single woman hogging the spotlight (forcing her to wear atrocious costumes to get attention, much like Hollywood celebs on the Red Carpet) and THIS pic finally captures her sensuality for me. It clicked with me right away. Tinkerbell dress-up fantasy? Bonus points!

TRDL Tribute – Lord Soth
15/02/07

This piece was done for the This Week Jam, the character being Lord Soth, from the Dragonlance Chronicles.
The selection of this character took me back to my AD&D days, and it was pretty cool to try and draw gilded plate mail like this. I got cheeky with the name, here, and after considering three different word balloons for the pic, I decided to let the image speak for itself.

TRDL Tribute – Batwoman
15/02/07

This piece was done for the This Week Jam, the character being DC’s Batwoman, from the pages of 52.
I’m actually a huge fan of the 52 project. It’s had it’s ups and downs, but it’s been a massive undertaking, and something to which I look forward every week. That said, while the decision to use the absence of the Big Three to relaunch Batwoman wasn’t in itself a bad idea, using this retro, derivative design, in it’s irrational, striking color scheme, was, in my opinion. It’s bad enough Ms. Kane (once again) is a virtual clone of Bruce Wayne, but just after we seem to have won the design war against the yellow target and belt in Batman’s costume, here comes the bright red batbabe in heels, with three different, DIFFERENT, iterations of the Bat logo in the costume, and a wonky bat-truncheon I couldn’t bring myself to draw. Suffice to speak, not a fan.
I AM a fan of Morrison’s redesign for Prometheus, however, so this became something of an opportunity to draw him, if only as a foil for 52′s Batwoman in this piece.

TRDL Tribute – Ultimate Wasp
15/02/07

This piece was done for the This Week Jam, the character being Marvel’s Wasp.
Janet Van Dyne seems to have had as many costumes as Avengers have had roster changes. Unfortunately, most of them are pretty awful. However, Ultimate Wasp, as designed by Bryan Hitch, in another story. Asian, black leather pants, a halter and smokin hot… this is a Wasp I can get behind. So, here we have Jan enjoying an R3-approved visitor…

Spriggan is, or rather was, a junior member of the posthuman rescue team, Rampart!
Created and illustrated by Joao Marques
Origin by Joao Marques and Thom Chiaramonte
:::
Spriggan
Name: Mandy Satco
Affiliation: Rampart
Attributes:
Melee: 10
Reflex: 20
Muscle: 20
Vigor: 10
Acumen: 20
Observation: 20
Will: 20
Life: 60
Influence: 60
Abilities:
Sprite Generation: Spriggan has developed a very unusual posthuman latent ability: she generates 6” tall glowing creatures, or Sprites, which follow her will, illuminate her path, and perform tasks for her. They can carry small objects, or work together to carry up to 150lbs combined, can perform a multitude of independent functions, and are extremely protective of their creator. It is not publicly known how Spriggan generates these creatures, whether they are indeed truly sentient, and whether or not they exist prior to her conjuring, or are rather creations of her ability. She feels pain at their loss, and has been able to generate substantial numbers of them at once, with the limits of her ability not yet determined.
Spriggan’s ability is actually a highly refined form of light generation, which takes the form of creatures pulled from her subconscious. Her ability to create them in quantity is limited only by the toll on her mental acuity: She can create a number of Sprites equal to 10 times her combined Mental Attributes (at full Life, 600) but for every 50 sprites she conjures simultaneously, she loses -1CS to each of her Acumen, Observation and Will stats, thereby not only weakening her ability to conjure subsequent Sprites, but her ability to control the ones she’s created. Therefore, she can create the largest mass in a single instance, but suffers difficulty giving them complex, independent tasks. Her power has an Intensity Value of 40 for Action purposes. … Read on for more awesome…

Karbon Kate is a member of Australia/New Zealand’s Alchera!
Created and illustrated by Thom Chiaramonte
:::
Karbon Kate
Name: Kathryn Barrows
Affiliation: Alchera
Attributes:
Melee: 10
Reflex: 20
Muscle: 10
Vigor: 20
Acumen: 20
Observation: 40
Will: 30
Life: 60
Influence: 90
Abilities:
Physiological Enhancement: Kate’s body is uniformly hardened, providing resistance from energy attacks [20 AP], and resistance from physical attacks [10 AP] slightly more robust than typical posthuman results.
Replication: When Kate’s Life reaches zero, she must make a Will Save. If Yellow or higher, a new body materializes within 3 areas of the last, within 3 rounds, at full Life. If the Action fails? One doesn’t.
Origin:
Kathryn Barrow is the sister of Obadiah Barrow, known publicly as Kiloton, member of Rampart, the British, French and German co-funded international posthuman crisis response team. She was employed as a posthuman handler for Rampart since the team’s inception, and accompanied them on many of their field missions, as part of the auxiliary support crew that was always positioned to assist with recovery, damage control and intelligence management, when the high-profile team was engaged in public actions. At the time of Kiloton’s disfigurement, in what the international press would call the Leeds Schoolbus Disaster, Kathryn was a major source of strength and inspiration for her brother, during recovery and throughout his rehabilitation.
When Kiloton was killed in combat with Geiger and the Gorgon Gang, in Paris, Kathryn Barrow was devastated, withdrawing from her position with the Rampart auxiliary support staff. Suffering from depression, she was sent, by her employer and mentor, a high-ranking executive in Rampart’s parent administrative organization, Crest and Shield, to mourn the loss of her brother in Sydney, home of her parents and much of her extended family.
Within months of her time in Australia, Kathryn began … Read on for more awesome…

Creating a video Avatar
01/02/07
Hey gang…
I know how to make an animated GIF with images but my boss wants me to make a “special” video avatar for his kids’ MySpace page and I haven’t got a clue.
Closest thing I’ve found was a product called Video Avatar 2.2 from GeoVid. But it’s a PC-only program and we’re a Mac shop.
If anyone has any experience making these video avatars and/or signatures, can you please e-mail me off-list at chris.flick@drcs.com or chrisflick@csfgraphics.com please?
Thanks!
-Chris
