Vintage!

I often get asked how I create digital shading patterns in my art. It’s a pretty easy process in Photoshop.

I open a new file and fill it with black.

Next I reduce the opacity to grey tone (play around with the opacity). After that I

change the mode from Grayscale to Bitmap, choose Halftone screen from the drop down menu and enter frequency and angle. Once I have the layered placed, I mask out the areas I don’t want to see and whola. Works pretty well.

For a gradient, start out with a graded area instead of solid black
