This piece was done for the R3 Designer Jam, the challenge being to design a female version of G.I.Joe’s Snake-Eyes.

I’m pretty sure like 99.99999% of kids liked Snake-Eyes best. I mean, while most of the G.I.Joe line, as it was, at least, in the early few years of the 4″ figure variety, based on an abstract assortment of largely drab military imagery and styles conjured during a period in the US when we weren’t actively, overtly in a major armed conflict, here was the ONE guy among the heroes with the mystery of a masked face, the darkness of a bad ass ninja, the slick design of a commando, and the coolest weapon accessories. Sort of unfair to the other Joes, except for maybe Scarlett, who had the benefit of being the hotty female fighter towards which a generation of kids directed their near-pubescent energies, given a slight advantage over the other female Joes because of her primary red hair. Yep, Snake-Eyes was the rad Joe, and even grown older, I never shook the preference for him, his mute awesomeness, and his clear Scarlett-rocking ways.

This R3 Designer Jam challenge was to redesign Snake-Eyes as a woman, so I imagined a new Snake-Eyes, fighting for vengeance after the death of the original, at the hands of, I don’t know, Baron Bludd or someone. It’s Scarlett, wearing Snake-Eyes’ kit. Those Cobra soldiers below? Soon to be filling stylish King Cobra-shaped black lacquered caskets in Myanmar, or wherever Cobra sends their dead mercs for eternal slumber.

Hope you like her!
