This is a piece done for the This Week Jam, the subject being the pantheon of heroes under the colors of the Green Lantern Corps.

I haven’t read any issues of the Green Lantern Corps. I thought I had, then realized I was just wrong-membering old issues of Alien Legion. But over the years, I’ve seen a number of cool characters amidst the sort of boring plain ole Hal Jordan rejects. I almost drew Kilowog, but had to try my hand at the hottest galaxian in a skirt… Arisia. I hope that’s her name. Or was.

This is a piece done for the R3 Illustrator Jam, the subject being a redesign/reinterpretation of Batman: Year One.

In the streets of Gotham, young, ambitious jewel thief Bruce Wayne and his fiancee Selena Kyle planned the perfect crime: steal the Dream Diamond from the Gotham Historical Archives, by flying down through the clerestory windows of the building using Wayne’s father’s experimental human glider tactical suits.

Though his father had spent much of his fortune employing reformed criminals, believing in their ability to be good citizens, Wayne believed that many of the workers in his fathers factory that had assisted in the prototypes were secretly part of Gotham’s organized crime network. After his father’s passage, Wayne had found his ownership of the company threatened by internal corruption, sabotage, and labor strikes. His family fortune nearly depleted, he crafted a scheme by which the massive diamond would be sold to a private Italian collector, Falcone, replenishing his cash reserves and enabling him to fire his father’s corrupt crew, and build a new labor force of non-ex-felons.

However, the heist went terribly wrong. Wayne’s beloved Selena was struck by building structure as they entered at a steep angle through the clerestory, causing her ultralight glider cape to catch on the jagged structural glass and inadvertently strangle her. As Wayne struggled to free her, police responded to eyewitness reports of giant bats circling the dark streets of downtown. Suffering bullet wounds and struggling to stay conscious, Wayne hurled himself back out the window, and sailed across the urban nightscape to freedom, nearly passing out from the loss of blood.

This is a piece done for the This Week Jam, the subject being the awesome manga and anime heroine, Major Kusanagi.

I love Ghost in the Shell, though not as much as Appleseed, and the design for the Major was always pretty cool. I especially like monochrome or muted costume design, and she frequently wears more muted outfits, though less as a military uniform kind of a thing, and more as a design thing. White unitards and armored parts, etc. Anyway, last time I drew this character in one of her ‘cybersuits’ and carrying one of those briefcase guns from the OAV. This time, I was inspired by a beautiful vinyl kit of the character I saw online. As usual, I drew in my own style, not an anime line, so she looks a bit different.

This is a piece done as part of an art trade with R3 Army member Akua, who designed this character years back.

According to Akua, about 4 years ago:

"Camella was born in Japan to an American father and a Japanese mother. She lived in Japan for most of her life. Her father and mother died in a car crash when she was 2. She does not remember them, she doesn’t even know what they look like. Her grandfather took care of her until she was 18 when she moved out into the world. Her grandfather stressed discipline and knowledge. She can speak 4 languages; Japanese, English, Italian, and Polish.
When Camella was 8, she stumbled across a demon that was hiding in her grandfathers shrine. He attacked Camella. Her grandfather saw this and begun to run to help her, but something amazing happened – the demon entered Camella without harming her. Camella’s grandfather realized that Camella was the one who was chosen to help stop the demons and monsters that plaques the world. After this, her grandfather made Camella study demons, gods, goddesses, and fighting techniques. She also began to have dreams about her life…specifically rather abstract dreams that showed her where she was in her life. She still, to this day, does not completely understand the dreams.

She has moved to the city because she feels as if there are a large amount of demons hanging around, and an amazingly strong demon that lives in the city. She works as a Japanese teacher at Whitman High School. She lives alone in a loft with her pet an ay ay lemur"

Ionization: Tsunami’s latent ability involves the ionization of air molecules around her in concentric circles radiating outward from her position. This unique agitation of the air around her allows her to manipulate forces with ease, creating shockwaves, earthquakes and wavefront surges of kinetic energy in a radial fashion. She does not literally have any telekinetic ability, but is, in effect, pushing the air molecules away from her at ultra-high velocity, with virtually no perception of wind or air currents.
