This was done as a special charity auction commission, to sponsor Ironlung’s AidsRide this year.

R3 Army member Bobby Sparhawk commissioned this auction piece. His request was for me to take inspiration from a photo of his wife, sitting with legs crossed. I chose to design a superhero persona for her. Thus, Bob’s ‘Tanyameister’ as he calls her, has been given a secret identity as ‘Maestra!’ Now, my wife informed me that Maestra means ‘schoolteacher’ in German, which i quite like, since she just schooled comics continuity Iron Monger. HA!

This is a piece done for the R3 Jam, the subject the Fantastic Four.
I chose Reed Richards.

I’m kind of annoyed that my concept didn’t realize the way I intended it. The idea was to have him getting all stretchy from trying to grab Thor’s hammer and it not budging since, like Excalibur, only the noble are supposed to be able to wield it. But I think even with the shadow it isn’t clear that he’s not carrying it. I’m playing with the concept that Reed’s actions since the revelation of the Illuminati prove him to be, if not corrupt certainly, morally ambiguous (as all tough decision-making leaders are) … I’m not complaining about this direction, but the Illuminati thing showed a realistic, and very mortal, dark side to making decisions in the interest of society. Especially without checks and balances.
Anyway. Can’t move hammer. Not Clor’s hammer. Real hammer.

This is a piece done for the R3 Jam, the THEME JAM challenge being to turn a good character evil.

I decided to play with the concept a bit: I took an old timey 40′s pulp hero with an evil sounding steez, and turn him into… an old timey 40′s pulp villain. So, you may not be familiar with the Black Terror (I’ll post a ref pic in a second) but basically I played with some ‘villain’ details: I gave him a slick black pompadour and a pencil stache, a creepy, confident grin, a Phantom mask, a collar and tie, enlarged his cape and gave it a top, and tweaked the detail work of the body suit (skull cape clasps, piping) and gave him jack boots. Kind of a fun exercise!
