TRDL and R3 Syndication Now Live!
20/09/08
![]()
It’s taken about a solid frustrating year, but I have finally integrated RSS/ATOM syndication for both the TRDL main illustration site, and the R3 Forum!
For those unfamiliar, Syndication (usually, though somewhat erroneously, referred to as RSS Feed) allows you to receive content as news items, in the reader of your choice. These include browser plug-ins, mail clients, and stand-alone applications.
The following feeds are currently available:
Third Rail Design Lab Illustration Site Updates: Click here to add this Feed! (This is the same feed as seen on the main TRDL site.)
R3 Forum, NEW TOPICS ONLY: Click here to add this Feed!
R3 Forum, LATEST POSTS: Click here to add this Feed!
Clicking these above will add them to your browser’s built-in Feed reader, or your system’s default app for same.
Instructions:
For Firefox users, this is very easy, as the browser automatically captures Syndication links as ‘Live Bookmarks’ which offer you dynamic links, updated hourly, that allow you to easily see new content added to either site, and quickly access it.

You can also subscribe to Syndications through most email clients, such as Mail and Outlook. You will receive updates to site content in familiar email interface, with direct linking back to the site for further exploration. This is useful for those who prefer mail lists and their ‘push’ method of content delivery.

And, for those of you who are already Syndication power-users, a number of free third-party stand-alone readers are available, to manage multiple feeds separately from your browser or mail content…
Google Apps/ Gmail users will find the familiar Google Reader will perform admirably for Syndications, though you can also grab the feed directly in your Gmail inbox like mail. Yahoo is similar.

TRDL Tribute: Jyn-Na
19/09/08

This character was illustrated for one of my repeat commission clients, Teri. It is her character, used in a superhero-based RPG, named Jyn-Na, who is of similar background to DC’s Power Girl. I saw some of her other commissioned work on this character by some great artists and she’s always presented in a very upbeat, confident light, so i went that approach on this piece as well. I tried to make her busty and buff, but still curvy.
You can see this illustration herein the TRDL Tribute Gallery.

This illustration was done for the R3 Jam, the subject being the classic Kirby creations, the Celestials, from stoney old Marvel comics. I love these guys, though, in my personal experience, have read very few titles with them growing up, as they occurred before my comics reading time (until very recently)… I love Kirby designs, and this was a fun opportunity to do my own. I think the ocean could ave used some texture, but I fear texture with my illustration style, so i chose against it in the end…anyway, happy with this one!

Dervish is a self-made posthuman criminal who earned her place in the Gorgon Gang by murdering her predecessor.

Bladed Weapons: Dervish wields a number of bladed weapons tethered to her lower back by a reinforced harness. She can use these in a number of ways: She can twirl and release individual blades by hand, using them as short-range Edged stabbing weapons that can reach to 4m with the elastic tethers fully extended; She can spin a number of blades in a defensive arc from either hand to act as a parrying defense against melee and ranged attacks (+2CS to Parry) or use them ambidextrously in a moving pattern to create a shield around herself with 270 degrees of protection, with only her rear flank unshielded (the Core strength of the blades becoming the effective Armor of the defense;) and she can spin her body in such a fashion that all blades extend outward and cut a swath through all targets within 4 meters of her approach. The Core strength of her blades is 20 and they each do 20 DP of Edged Attack damage. The damage is cumulative if multiple blades are used on a given strike, up to the full compliment of 8 blades.

This is an illustration done for the R3 Jam. It’s poor Sherlock Holmes. Unfortunately, in his declining years he was less astute.

Q: How do ABSORPTION Powers work?
14/09/08
This is actually a follow up to the NEXT question I’m going to ask.
How does the absorption of incoming attacks work?
How does this work if I am not being attacked, but draining off a non-hostile force?

I was wondering about the confrontation groups. Once they were "captured", did the gov’t stage the break outs? And if so, were the villains ever really in the facility from which they "escaped"?
I mean this seems like a really good way to "eliminate" people not on board with your project and blame it on someone else. Some "good" cops who were bout to testify, Agents who were of questionable loyalty, that type of thing.
What do others think?

As some of you may know, ComeroticaCorner’s TCatt has just published an erotic Advanced Dungeons and Dragons game book. I was one of the artists on this project, and drew some of the character class illustrations and one of the monsters. I’ll post them in the TRDL Erotic section of the Deviant Vault, so you can check them out. As they involve mild nudity, I’m not posting any of the illustrations here.
If you are a gamer or an art collector and interested in this game, it can be purchased from Drive-Through RPG as a PDF, and includes illustration work by TCatt, Miravi, Oni, Anthony Carpenter, Q and others. I have it, and it’s really something. It came together very well.

You can order it or explore samples here.

The Golden Gamayun is a folk hero, with origins in the former Soviet Union, returning to serve Russia as part of Kodiak.
Art and Origin: Thom Chiaramonte
:::
The Golden Gamayun
Name: Olga Yekaterin
Affiliation: Kodiak
Attributes:
Melee: 25
Reflex: 30
Muscle: 45
Vigor: 40
Acumen: 40
Observation: 30
Will: 50
Life: 140
Influence: 120
Abilities:
K7K Powered Armor: The Golden Gamayun powered armor is based on the K7K exo-skeletal framework, with various additions including ceramic plating, kinetic-assist servos at joint connections, and an on-board AI. The armor is specifically designed around Olga Yekaterin’s physiology, and as a result, is not operable by a non posthuman pilot, relying on her enhanced physical stature to maintain control of the suit. The armor offers 40 AP over a Core of 40, and takes damage from physical attacks normally, but only half damage from energy and thermal attacks, due to the ceramic plating’s refractive capabilities. The AI assists with combat logistics, offering her +1CS towards Observation and Reflex Actions.
Fractal Pulse Weapon: Each palm of the Golden Gamayun armor contains a launch port for a unique energy weapon called a Fractal Pulse generator. Energy particles are agitated in a containment system on the lower back of the armor, then discharged through either or both pal ports, releasing a cluster of cracked molecular fragments which continue to move away from each other at random vectors, releasing arcs of powerful energy chords. The Fractal Pulse weapon can be used in three ways: as a targeted attack, a defensive shield or as a disruptive pulse.
As a targeted attack, the each palm port can be aimed at all targets in a given area. The tightest spread is a 2m target point, and the widest is a 5m area. The 2m target area requires a -1CS to … Read on for more awesome…
