This was done for the R3 Jam, the subject being Mockingbird, the dead lover of Clint Barton. I loved Mockingbird back in the day, admittedly mostly because I liked monochrome or black costumes and this was one of Marvel’s better ones: highlighting her hair and her skin and the shiny metallic billy clubs she used. That said while I was never a fan of blond characters as a general rule, and while she was certainly confident in the old West Coast Avengers books, she never struck me as a genius. But according to the Handbooks, she’s a brilliant scientist with a keen analytical mind! Who, you know happened to enjoy running around in a leotard. Anyway, I chose to pay homage to the Handbook illustration for Mockingbird, as it was an image I knew very well from my youth. I was intrigued by how much her back looks broken to my eye today. Didn’t have a problem with that as a young teen, I have to admit.
