TRDL Tribute: Zoe Jones
04/10/08

This character was designed for a repeat client of mine, John, who runs a superhero based RPG online. He has a host of character concepts and stories that have been developed for the game and used in his campaigns. I’m slowly working through some of them, giving them the TRDL design treatment. One of the design objectives of this series of character designs is that I employ the TRDL style in the designs, to design them as if they were original characters set in the TRDL Mythology. I don’t have a lot of traditional spandex in that stuff, relying more on neoprenes, woven meshes, bodysuits, slightly more practical looking gear, and simpler costume designs. So throughout this process, part of the challenge is to capture as much of the fantastic classic superhero imagery that John imagines, while employing my stripped down design model. Good stuff!
Zoe’s concept description: "She’s the daughter of one of the country’s most decorated super-soldiers, and is stronger, tougher, faster and more agile than anyone her age and size has a right to be. She ‘s tall for her age, extremely fit and someone who moves with a natural, easy grace. Zoe is muscular but still feminine and her body cuts a very compelling silhouette. Pretty in an unconventional way, the rough-and-tumble girl (she’s a real troublemaker… gets in a lot of fights) wears her hair in a series of short braids (maybe beaded) and normally dresses for the kinds of activities she likes to partake in. Fatigues, jeans, hoodies, sweats and tanks are normally the order of the day. African-American, she has deep brown skin, like her father, brown eyes and a flashing smile. She doesn’t have a costume as such, but it might be fun to put her in a school uniform."
I responded … Read on for more awesome…

Aero’s concept description: "A classic superheroine…Aero is a human-looking android who can ‘shift’ her powers to a number of areas, like flight, eyeblasts, a force field, super-strength, etc. She’s tall and impeccably toned, has long blonde hair, a small domino-style mask and an orange and white costume that doesn’t reveal much skin, but does fit her body like a glove. …She was kind of frumpy looking before, and is still getting used to her supermodel looks and robot senses (which never turn off — she can’t look at a piece of pie without analyzing it chemically). Quote: "I had no idea my husband was a breast man… but, well, obviously he was."
We went through several iterations of this design. John pushed for a more bodacious, exaggerated female figure, which I struggled with because i drew the piece with more realistic proportions initially, and as I enlarged the breasts I kept trying to do so … Read on for more awesome…

Luna’s concept description: "a young…woman who is kind of a Batman type. A night hunter of criminals, someone who sticks to stealth and fighting from shadows. She has a dark (gray or black), skin-tight bodysuit, mean-treaded boots, a big, sweeping cloak and a loose-fitting hood that usually conceals her face. She’s got a little domino-style mask, but the shadows from her hood normally cover that. She’s slim but fairly busty for her build, has long, dark hair (think Greek or Mediterranean) and a belt that contains a ton of different gadgets. She should have some kind of stylized moon symbol on her chest, like a waning crescent moon or something. Also, her belt buckle is a light… that projects a beam of her symbol."
I had a strong mental image of this one right out of the gate, being an old fan of Batman but moreso Moon Knight, and in general, a designer who favors … Read on for more awesome…

Rampart Red is the sole remaining living Kreuger triplet, his brothers, formerly comprising the Rampart Triad, deceased in posthuman batttle. He now operates with Project Hermes.

Rampart Red
Name: Ernst Kreuger
Affiliation: Project Hermes
Attributes:
Melee: 25
Reflex: 25
Muscle: 20
Vigor: 50
Acumen: 15
Observation: 45
Will: 10
Health: 120
Karma: 70
Abilities:
Body Armor: Rampart Red’s latural posthuman physiological changes were uncharacteristically minor, as they were with those of his brothers, as a result of the program’s relatively conservative development protocols, As a result, his physiology, while enhanced to the degree reflected in his Attributes above, does not provide natural resistance to physical damage. All Rampart brothers were given a precision-weave kinetic-ballistic mesh that provides 20 AP protection from physical attacks, 10 AP protection from energy attacks, and 30 AP protection from thermal attacks. The armor is self-healing at a repair rate of 5 points per round.
Kinetic Shield: Rampart Red’s primary latent ability involves the generation of a faintly visible, kinetic-feedback shield membrane in small areas of approximately 2 square meters each, which protect against physical and energy attacks with with an effective Armor of 50, equivalent to the Intensity of his ability. This power can be manifested around Rampart Red, or several nearby targets with little effort, and multiple shields can be generated simultaneously. Each round, a Yellow Vigor Save must be made in order to sustain each shield, with no limit on the number of shields being generated. However, when Rampart Red is unable to sustain one of a group of shields, the following round, Orange Vigor Saves must be made for the remaining shields, as he attempts to retain control of the power; if all remaining shields hold, he returns to Yellow Vigor Saves in the following round, … Read on for more awesome…
