trdltr enchantress09 a TRDL Tribute: Enchantress [2009]

This was a gift done for longtime R3 Army member Vlad Fiks, as a housewarming present. Some years back, he commissioned me to draw a Marvel superheroine, and we decided on the Enchantress. I was never happy with the piece over time, as the proportions bothered me. So I finally had a chance to rectify the situation by doing a second version. This time she’s wearing the variant of her outfit that was redesigned (I think) by Tom Raney… as usual, I muted the technicolor a bit.

trdltr grimstreet a TRDL Tribute: Grim [Street Clothes]

This piece was another commission for R3 Army member Bob Karcher / Heritage, for his comic property Grim. The main character, Grimalkin, a costumed urban vigilante, has a Natalie Portman with brass knuckles kind of vibe. Or a hockey stick, I guess I should say. Anyway, this illustration shows her in her plain clothes. Both young versions and seasoned adult versions of Grim in uniform have already been published.

trdltr stalwart2 a TRDL Tribute: Stalwart

This was a design done for R3 member Heritage, for his creator-owned comic project. His comic series surrounds the adventures of Grimalkin, a female super whose partner, if I understand it, ends up being the paramilitary influenced avenger, Stalwart. I’m sure Bob can elaborate as much as he wants to here, but the objective was to go the Batman route in some ways, but realized as a normal human in tactical gear, who just happens to have some alien tech weaponry. The challenge in this sort of design, as you can probably imagine, is that black doesn’t render well. I mean, the 100% opaque black effect is cool, but when you want to show detail, it’s tough. So I played with color and tone to give him something that reads like a guy in black paramilitary gear, but has some interesting details that you can see. The helmet and facemask worked out pretty well i thought. I also enjoyed working on the alien tech stuff…

kiyah New TRDL Ninja Spotted, Therefore Weak in Skillz

Thanks to an AMAZING and most auspicious hand-knitted gift from R3 Army Lt. Suncat, we have a new TRDL ninja, whose visibility proves her skills are neither mad nor displayable. But, at the very least, she’s smart enough to hide behind one of the expendable ninja footsoldiers, like she was taught. Amazing work Suncat! And she’ll rock it well in about 12 months…

Thanks again!

No need to get on the roof with a shotgun to ward off the zombie apocalypse or anything… unless that was already your weekend plan.

mail will still go through to my alternate gmail: thirdraildesignlab///AT///gmail.com
