This piece was done for a commission client, who I’ve designed several other pieces for in the past few years, most set in his space opera universe, such as Cheri, Hamilton, Admiral, Xar Batle Carapace and more. Here, Navi Ross is supposed to be a powerful Native American figure, a real action man. I tried to show that athletic confidence, while keeping within the design constraints of the uniform already designed for this military system in the client’s world. I was pleased with the results on this one.

This piece was done for the TRDL R3 Jam, the subject being Black Mary, the evil version of young Mary Marvel, as first seen in Countdown, or 52 or one of those weekly DC books. I can’t say I care about the events surrounding the character’s transformation, or any symbolism involved. I just really, really, REALLY like the costume, especially details like the long sleeves, the tall docs and the tight pleat on the skirt. I could draw her all day…

This piece was done for the TRDL R3 Jam, the subject being Crystal of the Inhumans.
I always liked the design of this character, even though I found the Inhumans kind of weak growing up. The Kirbyness was always neat, but like the Asgardians, I never really found myself interested in most of the characters as protagonists. I liked watching them get their asses kicked or kicking ass. I liked Medusa for her colors and her hair business, Black Bolt for the reverence to his awesome power held in check, and kind of liked Karnak for being so weird with his head. But with Crystal, it was the classic yellow costume I liked the most. Simple, unexplained design detailing, and it really worked for me, especially the hair. For this piece, I used Steve Rude’s interpretation as the basis for my costume shown. And of course, I’m playing with the concept of Terrigen mists and secondary mutations and so on. Mostly I just suck at drawing animals, so any opportunity to try, I’ll take it.

This piece was done for the TRDL R3 Jam, the subject being Dominion- Tank Police, an early manga from Masamune Shirow. I have to admit, I had some of this, but not all, and it didn’t wow me the way Appleseed would later. But I did always like the Puma Girls. Seemed very punk/exotic/catburglarish. In doing this pin-up I got discombobulated so the accouterments aren’t necessarily accurate in that the asymmetry is reversed on some detail. But overall, I thought it came out well. Larger pieces are a challenge to display on the site because of their aspect ratio, but I guess a little Concealed Dope never hurt anyone.
