This piece was done for the TRDL R3 Jam, the subject being Thing, from the Fantastic Four.

I always have struggles with the Thing because of the amorphous nature of his material (in hardened form, rather tan the mushy years)… Byrne is probably one of the best I can remember at making the material seem just-so, like part exoskeletal tiling, part rock, but never too literal. Others made him actually rocky and awkward, or just orange patterning, or cracks. I find him challenging but in a good way. I overthought him, as usual: I made tiny horizontal fragments of material at the elbows, under the arms etc as if designed to allow compression. Makes no sense. It’s like Iron Man’s traditional thinmesh armors. HOW does that move??? But anyway.

Also the Mad Thinker’s Awesome Android was one of my favorite lame old villains to beat the crap out of, back in my Marvel RPG days…
