ditto - digging your style on this (and your Thor piece). An interesting 'dark' take on SG - really cool!

I love the lighting and also the inks... I get a great Bill S. vs Neal Adams vibe!

 Re: R3 Jam: Supergirl 2010
thank you all for your compliments, guys, i really do! still, there is so much i need to learn in matters of anatomy and composition aaaand my biggest minus point are the backgrounds.I do suck big time at backgrounds, well,if i need to draw some trees or pillars,i can handle that, but, the rest is still in a white artistic limbo for me.

 Re: R3 Jam: Supergirl 2010
I think it's about choice more than anything; for example, I ENJOY white backgrounds on character pieces. But it's never a crutch. When I want a background, I do one, and obviously for my comic work they are essential. I think two things I would say are to a) visualize the scene in terms of perspective to help ground the figure in 3D space for your mind's eye before you draw, and b) experiment with bringing photo ref backgrounds in in Photoshop, zoom/scale/crop/tweak as necessary to get what you want; then reduce opacity and on a new layer, hand draw over it, loosely tracing, until you create a simple background of your own. Kill the ref layer, color the new background layer. Do that for awhile and you'll start to get a feel for what you like, how to plan for a background from the beginning, and how to lay one out for yourself. One final thing is to bring the figure INTO a background rather than in front of it. I use this in my sequential work a lot. Put something in the foreground, and make your figure the middle ground.

Great textures, Cary, and I love the dirtyness to the fingertips. We're underwater, right? But I'm not sure what we're looking at.
