I typically scan it in bitmap, convert to bmg color, make a copy of the blue channel, make a new layer, load the copy of the blue layer and then color the selection black, but it seems thicken my lines sometimes, and other times the black shows up grey, like my pen is on a low opacity, but its set at 100% its usually then that the grey film shows up too... any suggestions?

1. Scanning suggestion
I'm not going to be much help here I feel. Although the whole process sounds a little conveluted! Maybe one of the others here might be able to pinpoint your problem. When I scan in my inks, I do so at 300dpi, greyscale. Once digitised I'll "clean-up" the artwork using the lasoo tools to cut out any erronious grime or marks that has come through on the scan. I'll then highten the contrast value *ever-so-slightly*! Just to keep what's black, black and what's white, white. Important not to increase this too much as any -subtle- gray's you would like to keep will be washed out and appear grainy the farther you turn up the contrasts. Use your eye on it. Then I'll select a new channel and inverse the selection so that I have just my greyscale lines selected. Fill this with a black (read: greyscale) onto a new layer. This then allows me to ditch the original scan layer and insert a white background.
2. Inking suggestion
If you are dreading the inks, try and work up a little excitement about it. Make more of an 'event' about the process. As you are pencilling imagine what you might do with some of the lines, that you've pencilled, in ink. Area's where you could have some fun. Areas where you might have the opportunity to use different pen sizes, areas where the clothing or background afford you the opportunity to play with the textures. Have fun, experiment. Enjoy.

Be happy with this piece and let it stand on it's own merits! That said go and work up a whole *NEW* nude Black Canary piece!

This isn't really my own work, rather just a fun little quick drawing based on a photo of a young lady in a black canary costume from some cosplay site.
I wanted to do as much of the drawing as possible in ink, with only the barest gesture of pencil beneath it -- and it's reasonably successful, even if I did mess up the fishnets near the knee!

Only on the near leg and not-so-much as to distract from the overall image!
It's a really nice image Jason.

Thsoe are both wonderful.
I kinda had a thing for the B.o.P. outfit she was wearing for a while. Don't get me wrong, the fishnets rock the socks, but the futuristic, long sleeve, no pants makes me smile.
Actually, Dinah makes me smile in general.
And those are nice boobs.
And a very lovely sitting pose.

Here is mine:
I saw this yesterday, but somehow forgot to comment on it, apparently. Is that your own variant on her costume? I like the canary emblem at the neck.

Came across this photo I had taken of the lovely Miss CatGirl, and thought the window frame she was sitting in looked an awful lot like a birds perch in a cage, and I remebered Black Canary... Viola! I think it worked on my Artists block too, I'm pretty happy with the way this turned out.
Inspiration is a fleeting and wonderful thing. I love that pose. It's contemplative.

I'm missing how this "isn't really [your] own work."
It's super solid -- especially for a solely inked piece. I see what you're saying about the fishnets by the knee, but look at the bright side -- at the back part of the knee, the fishnets look perfect.
I know it's just a silly little thing, but that sort of wavy grounding thing at the bottom, on which her feet stand, and in which your signature lies, is a sweet highlight/grounding element.

I missed that one in the last post. I think it rocks too. What does the picture look like? can we see a side by side comparison?
I think it looks fatastic.

Fnard <snipped>
Fnard,
A couple of things...
1) Have you tired scanning your stuff as grayscale instead of bitmap?
2) I do much the same as you do with the Blue channel but once I make my extra Blue channel "Line art", I invert it. Have you tried that?

Hi. Here is another pic, this one is based on the JLU episode Grudge Match, where Black Canary is the champion of the metabrawl. She fights versus Fire, Vixen (like in this pic), Huntress, Hawkgirl and even Wonder Woman. It´s an excellent episode.

Yup. That is an excellent ep.
Featuring 2 of the leads from Firefly also.
