These Watchmen illustrations were inspired by a sketch commission I accepted, for a young Silk Spectre. I had to keep going, so i drew the rest of the Minutemen portrayed in the series, with the exception of Comedian, because, I don't know, he's not around long enough.

Night Owl was one of the hardest characters to draw from the Watchmen series, next to Ozymandias. Fortunately, I had more success with the former than the latter. It was kind of tough drawing a heavy-set character without the usual tacky comic abstractions of stockiness (Kingpin) or obesity (Blob)... in fact, there aren't many examples in mainstream comics of cool overweight characters... I don't know, maybe that wacky Asgardian guy... anyway, I thought Night Owl was compelling specifically BECAUSE of the squeezing back into the duds aspect of the character. Charlton's Blue Beetle was never this interesting. Plus, you know, he was shtuppin' Silk Spectre, so he had it going on, medium pimpin' style.
