This series of X-Men illustrations began as a commission sketch, and developed into a sketch series for the entire team, as designed by Frank Quitely for New X-Men during his run with Grant Morrison. Once I saw the m in a preview, I thought these redeasigns were awesome, and couldn't wait to draw them... and prompltly filed the source material away and never got to it.

Beast's physical changes were largely scorned among many hardcore X-fans... but I didn't share their views. I didn't see anything wrong with Grant Morrison's 'Secondary Mutation' concept, and thought it breathed some life into some characters that have grown a bit long in the tooth. Sure, this is a cipher of the Beast from Disney's film, but I thought he looked pretty wicked sporting both leathers and a good haircut. Anyway, I am very pleased with this drawing.
