IT PROVIDES NO PROTECTION FROM THERMAL BASED ATTACKS WHATSOEVER. THIS AUTOMATIC PROTECTION ONLY APPLIES IF THE WEAPON HAS BEEN GENERATED PRIOR TO THE ATTACK. ON AMBUSH, FLANNERY MAY ATTEMPT TO INSTINCTIVELY CONJURE THE WEAPON BY MAKING A YELLOW INTUITION FEAT. IF SUCCESSFUL, THE FORCE FIELD PROVIDES HALF PROTECTION IN THAT ROUND. REGENERATION: FLANNERY DRAWS LIFE ENERGY DIRECTLY FROM THE WEAPON. DURING COMBAT, HE MAY RECHARGETO FULL HEALTH THREE TIMES. EACH TIME, THE PLAYER MUST ELECT TO DO SO AT THE BEGINNING OF THE TURN, PRIOR TO ROLLING INITIATIVE. HOWEVER, THIS REGENERATION IS TEMPORARY, AND COMES AT A PRICE. AT THE END OF COMBAT, ALL REGENERATED HEALTH IS LOST, AND FLANNERY MUST HEAL NORMALLY. THE OBVIOUS DANGER HERE IS THAT IF HE HAS REGENERATED IN EXCESS OF HIS TOTAL HEALTH CUMULATIVELY, OR IS ALREADY WOUNDED AT THE CLOSE OF BATTLE , INCAPACITATION OR CAPTURE, THE RESULTING HEALTH LOSS MAY KILL HIM. |
| Not much is known about Mick Flannery's early years. His youth was spent in violent skirmishes with members of rival gangs, eventually sending him to New Dublin Prison for twenty eight years, for murder and conspiracy against the government. After brawling and rabble-rousing his first two years, over time Flannery discovered the value in the medidative arts through a book on loan from the Dublin Prison Library, and reformed his life. About a year later, during a minor prison riot, he was attacked by several members of a majority gang he had previously tussled with, and during a savage beating, he experienced the first manifestation of what he later dubbed the Sword of Damocles. He severely wounded four of the attackers before the remainder fled, after which the weapon disappeared. Devastated and remorseful, and not a little bit confused, he was the only inmate in his block to remain in his cell until order was restored. The guards, mistaking his conformity for subterfuge, suspected him of conspiring to ignite the riot in the first place, and he was entered into isolation. During the next three years of solitary confinement, Flannery trained himself to conjure his mysterious flaming weapon at will, and to use it effectively. Disheartened by his false imprisonment in solitary, and convinced his newfound abilities were a sign of his terrible, damned soul, he lay in wait for the day when he was finally released from his confinement to re-enter the prison population. He conjured the weapon, slayed his jailors, and eventually fought his way to escape, leading the largest outbreak in New Dublin Prison history. Flannery entered the Irish underworld, and became one of the most wanted men in the UK, always eluding capture and resurfacing soon after to incite violence against authority in his followers, many of whom believed him to be the demonic spawn he presumed himself to be. He remains at large. |
