This was one of several illustartions done by request for Advanced Iron #64, the oldest Iron Man fanzine, currently published on the web. The Thunderbolts image was a composite of several single figures rendered separately. It still doesn't ring true for me: Hawkeye leading the Thunderbolts. I had enough difficulty with him in West Coast Avengers. But then again, that could have been the cursed Al Milgrom art. Anyway, this has always been, to me, a criminally underutilized character in the Avengers lineup. This is the only guy to have enough confidence and ego to challenge Captain America on a regular basis. I like his brash, aggressive personality. He has never been more interestingly portrayed than in Busiek and Pacheco's Avengers Forever mini-series froma few years back. It recharged my interest in the character, despite having no enthusiasm for the archery-based hero archtype (Green Arrow was always idiotic, with regards to his Fist Arrows or what have you, despite interesting characterization being done with him from time to time, and , I mean, come on, Youngblood? Unless Steve Skroce is drawing it, I won't touch that. Anyway, here's your pruple chainmail, kids.
