Mako is Narayanan Kanan, a brilliant former mob enforcer from Malaysia who made a small fortune in the gambling racket after the owner of a large casino in Dakar deeded his assets to the young man, shortly before dying of mysterious circumstances. Mako promptly disappeared. A genius designer in his own right, he had employed a number of engineering and research technicians to assist him in realizing his concepts for new energy sources and containment fields, and leveraged these advances to Sun Gold, a major energy company in Taiwan. The industrial giant attempted to oust him from his position as the head of their Innovative Projects division, once it was discovered that he had been funneling large sums of company assets into private offshore accounts. The entire executive board of Sun Gold was found murdered soon after, but Narayanan Kanan had disappeared once again, along with the stolen funds. Again under the radar, the ambitious inventor began to embrace a more hands-on approach to claiming power. Two years later, Mako re-emerged again, this time in Beijing, in his new imposing armored identity, cutting through the ranks of the local Triads to take control of much of the city's bustling underworld community. He had spent the majority of his fortune developing the shaped laser technology, originally intended for sale as a military application, which he later refined into the rake claws employed by his armored gauntlets. His suit was designed from the ground up to be sleek, aerodynamic, and shielded from most forms of energy/ solid light weaponry. Ruthlessly aggressive in his public assassinations of rival underworld leaders, Mako would terrorize the Beijing mob power structure for several months, always seen in his armor, glowing claws searing their way through flesh and steel alike, flanked by his small army of mercenary soldiers. He was embroiled in a bloody stalemate against the largest remaining crime lord in the city, an entire downtown supertower occupied by his men as they fought corridor to corridor with sworn loyalists of his rival, when he was visited in the heat of combat by Brother Geist of 風 [Wind,] a multinational East Asian terrorist organization recruiting new members for a new operation planned on European soil. Believing Geist to be a divine spirit, Mako pledged his army, and his personal loyalty, to the interests of 風 and left the combat, and Beijing, with him immediately. He remains fiercely loyal to Geist, and dedicated to the group's cause, a passion manipulated by the group when needed.
