TRDL 2014 Series, No. 16 – Deathlok - Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD [TRDL Redesign]

This one was done for the TRDL Art Jam, the subject being Deathlok from Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD.

My goal on this TRDL redesign was to do a comic-to-TV adaptation of the classic Deathlok character in a way that fit the design language of both Agents of SHIELD and the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a whole, while staying within my own TRDL design language.

My approach, as noted up top, was to first of all kill the asymmetry, because asymmetrical cyber always drives me nuts. Even if we suppose that, say, a cyberlimb wouldn’t just tear itself out of it’s mounting point as soon as it was used, by somehow being integrated into the user’s skeletal structure in some way (which still makes no sense) if they can fund a cyberlimb, they can fund two. The asymmetric cyber thing is a throwback to the days when that was *SHOCKING!* And the original Deathlok was a product of the time. But now? Nope. So if I’m going to rationalize cyber grafts that provide any enhanced physical ability, they need to be moored all the way to the ground. Hence, new arms, new legs, and lots of torso cage type bracing. Same again with the head. Why would you replace ONE optic but not the rest? Why would you stick with human bi-optic design in the first lace? Why would you armor PART of the head, and not the neck? So, I armored up everything. In fact, my only rationalization for keeping the flesh at all (over just having a fully cybered body with a human internal organ system) was to have SOME nod to the cyborg appearance of the original character.
