TRDL 2010 Series No. 60 - Power Girl

I'm not going to dodge it: Power Girl isn't my favorite character. Yet I've drawn her many, many times. Part of it has been trying to crack a costume redesign that would be less overt with the bustiers, but in recent years, largely thanks to Amanda Conner, the character was taken back from the exploitative roots and empowered. Now, the boob window is a weapon, and her attitude is aggressive, confident, and extroverted. I feel better about the concepts of the design, less motivated to change them. In fact, my favorite two iterations of the character that I've done include a Cryptohistorical Redesign, found here, and this piece, which is more or less canon. This pinup remains one of my favorites to date, from the composition, to the faux marketing/propaganda in the image, to the way her face and pose came out. I've sold a number of prints of this one to steelworkers, in fact!
