Happy Holidays from TRDL 2018!
Third Rail Design Lab News - December 2018
As 2018 eats the last slice and lets itself out, we wanted to wish you all a happy end to the holiday season. Here is one of our two annual holiday prints, featuring Anisoptera from the team Alchera, TRDL Universe original characters soon to be found in the Posthuman RPG in 2019. Joao's piece will be ready soon, and you will be able to find it on the site shortly.
I'm very excited about the year to come.
I can't wait to share some of the stuff I've been working on, culminating in over a decade's worth of development.
You'll dig it.
And now, a few brief news items to close out the year:
TRDL Convention Schedule:
2018 was easily my best year for comic convention appearances. Regulars to my table know I only do about 4 shows a year, but I have a blast doing them making new friends and seeing old ones, and sharing my work to new eyeballs. Highlights this year were Heroes and Villains Fanfest , San Francisco Comic Con, and Rose City Comic Con. For 2019, there are changes afoot. Sadly, Heroes and Villains Fanfest/ Walker Stalker Con has canceled shows along the west coast, so I won't be seeing my Portland friends in January and my San Jose pals in December. In addition, it looks like San Francisco Comic Con threw in the towel as well. That said, there's plenty of exciting stuff coming up in the new year. I will be tabling at Wondercon in Anaheim for the first time, and will also be at Silicon Valley Comic Con and Rose City Comic Con thereafter. There may be a fourth show added as we go. So, onward and upward: I hope to see as many of you as possible across the exhibitor table soon, as I will have some exciting new items to share this year!
The TRDL Shop is Open: Rain, Shine, or Meteor Strike
I won't be behind a convention table until late March. In the meantime, if you are interested in any of my art books, cards, or 11 x 17 archival art prints, you can still find what you want on the site directly. Not everything available at the shows is online, but a good amount of it is. If you can't find something you remember seeing, or are hoping for something but aren't sure if I offer it, just contact me directly. Remember, I combine shipping on art prints which come protected in a cardboard tube, so no worries about it arriving destroyed, like the other leading brand!
11x17 Art Prints: At last count, I have more than 600 collectible art prints available, from Marvel to DC, Film and TV, redesigns, popular culture, and more. Take a deep dive and see if something strikes your fancy. Plenty of recent favorites available, both con exclusive launches from this summer, and new works just completed!
11x17 Vintage Pinups: I have a number of offerings from my vintage-inspired pinup series, designed for vinyl application on bike frames, car bodies, etc. Many of these were commission pieces, so if you have a need for such a thing, let me know, but the prints look great and sell out at the shows often.
The TRDL Tribute Art Book: This is a heavy tome, a collection of art spanning several years, with archival quality perfect binding and heavy stock pages. It makes for a great coffee table book and sampler of my tribute art works.
Wrongrobot, Volumes 1 and 2: These collections feature hand-drawn robots and monsters (bots and bugaboos) which have been washed with gray Copics and prepared in two collections. Many of these were generated by a few keywords and improvised from there.
Choose from any (or all) of the prints on the site here! Direct links to the books are below.
TRDL Commissions Make Great Gifts Too, He Cried
My commissions plate was pretty full this season, so what I will be doing in 2019 is reserving a small number of slots each quarter, and spacing out that work so that I can be sure to get it done for those interested, while still completing the release of the new Posthuman RPG. Full color commission art starts at $200 and up (ie. for group shots, complex backgrounds and the like) You can get in the commission queue in one of three ways: Order a slot on the main website through this link, make your request in person at a show, or give me a shout to set things up! As a rule, I prioritize the in-person requests, but don't hesitate to reach out.
