TRDL 2019 Series No. 05 - Iron Man Space Armor [Issue 142]

The Space Armor was probably one of my favorite of the strangely purpose-built armors from my youth. I had been reading into the back catalog at the time, this being the mid-80s, so reading backwards about five years, as issue 142 was released in 1981… and when I hot this period of one-off designs, I was so into it, as a budding artist, because it meant more Iron Man armors to draw! This suit trades heavily on the moon boot design, and I don’t know if Dave Micheline was into skiing or space or what. I liked that the suit had no expressed mouth slit, as he would likely not need to communicate via broadcast speaker. I should also mention that Bob Layton’s cover was one of those ‘launching into action’ pinups that really drew me to the Iron Man books early on.
