TRDL News: The Posthuman RPG, Con Schedule, and Late Summer Art Sale!
TRDL News - Late Summer 2019
Here we are, suddenly late August, and I can’t quite figure out how that happened. It’s been a whirlwind of a year so far for me here at Third Rail Design Lab. After the snap collapse of Heroes and Villains - Portland at the beginning of the year, my first show for 2019 was Wondercon in Anaheim in March. It was my first time at this venue, and while I was stuck in a very challenging location divorced from other art sellers, it was still a great time, and we met a lot of fine people. It was also the soft debut of the project that has been cooking for well over a decade: the Posthuman Role Playing Game. Silicon Valley Comic Con in San Jose in August was a great show, and Posthuman went home with several enterprising GMs. Two more shows this year, and suddenly it will be 2020 somehow.
NEXT SHOW: ROSE CITY COMIC CON - Portland
For friends and customers in the Pacific Northwest, my next show will be Rose City Comic Con in Portland, this September 13 - 15, 2019. Come visit me at Table D05! Remember, if you mention this newsletter, you get a TRDL Insiders gift of a free 5x7 with any purchase.
ITEM: Posthuman - The Role Playing Game, Now Available!
Look for a separate missive on this project, but I’m thrilled to announce the release of Posthuman. I’ve been working on this project not just on a hard burn the last decade, but in various forms going back to my tender youth as a gamer and artist. The Posthuman RPG is a flexible, easy to play supers-based game system, with everything you need to create amazing characters, utilize detailed powers and abilities, and hold campaigns with convenient, improv-heavy GM resources. The Rulebook covers the basics of the Posthuman Universe, as well as character generation with multiple formats, power descriptions, game mechanics, and GM tools as well as character sheets and sample characters. The Posthuman Sourcebooks are chockablock with original characters, each with detailed origins that dovetail to fill out the Posthuman Universe timeline as described in the Rulebook. Everything is connected.
The books are available through a number of sources: On Amazon, Etsy, Storeenvy, and through thirdraildesignlab.com directly, and of course, best of all (I think) in person at one of my upcoming convention appearances. Currently the Rulebook and ALL FIVE Sourcebooks are available. As of mid-August, the last three books in the series went to press: Books 03 and 04: Confrontation Teams and Megagangs Parts 1 and 2, and Book 05: Rogue Agents and Lone Operatives. So, that’s all in about 400 or so original characters and teams for you to use with the Posthuman RPG, but who’s counting. If you pick the books up on the site directly, note the special bundle pricing for 3 books or 6 books.
The system will be revised and expanded on over time, so if you pick up copies, let me know how your gaming goes: fun experiences, recommended changes to the mechanics, anything goes! I love hearing from folks that use these characters in their games. You can get them all here, as well as a collection of art prints featuring some of the original characters from Posthuman.
Still Summer Sale!
My convention schedule was reduced by one show this year, so there have been several months between shows where I see folks in person. So, I’ve decided to offer a Still Summer Sale for art, books, and commissions ordered directly through this site.
From now until end of day 30 September 2019 everything in the shop is 10% off. Everything, you cry? EVERYTHING.
Offerings include art prints, coffee table books, commission art, the Posthuman RPG, and art cards, so many delights your head will swim. You can pick them up on the site using promo code STILLSUMMER19. Note: if you have any problems at checkout just let me know and I'll sort it out with science. For those of you that know what you want and don't want to deal with the site, just contact me directly.
11x17 Art Prints: At last count, I have more than 600 collectible art prints available, from Marvel to DC, Film and TV, redesigns, popular culture, and more. Take a deep dive and see if something strikes your fancy. Plenty of recent favorites available, both con exclusive launches from this summer, and new works just completed!
11x17 Vintage Pinups: I have a number of offerings from my vintage-inspired pinup series, designed for vinyl application on bike frames, car bodies, etc. Many of these were commission pieces, so if you have a need for such a thing, let me know, but the prints look great and sell out at the shows often.
The TRDL Tribute Art Book: This is a heavy tome, a collection of art spanning several years, with archival quality perfect binding and heavy stock pages. It makes for a great coffee table book and sampler of my tribute art works.
Wrongrobot, Volumes 1 and 2: These collections feature hand-drawn robots and monsters (bots and bugaboos) which have been washed with gray Copics and prepared in two collections. Many of these were generated by a few keywords and improvised from there.
Art Cards - 5 x 7 pieces on illustration board, featuring a selection of the more popular pieces from the 11x17 collection, including pinups, general pieces, and a selection of full-color Bots & Bugaboos!
NEW: Poster size: Any of my 11x17 piece available as 20x30 high quality poster art. These are not yet on the site, but reach out to me directly. Discount does apply. These are $40 each plus shipping, and can be made from any print in the collection.
These make fine gifts, and imagine how great you'll feel if, you know, you give everyone on your holiday list sweet, sweet art and then you're done with your shopping before December even begins? It would be madness to do anything else. Or it wouldn't be. Anyway, sale! STILLSUMMER19 is the code!
TRDL Commissions Make Great Gifts Too, He Cried
While I don't take on too many commissions these days, with my dance card being full and such, I do offer a few slots throughout the year. Full color commission art starts at $200 and up (ie. for group shots, complex backgrounds and the like) but if you want something done as a gift, don't wait too long to let me know. Give me a shout to set things up!
Robot-Kraken Podcast! New Episode Now Available!
If you aren't listening to Robot-Kraken, I can't even.
Finally, a reminder that Kris and I host a monthly podcast, Robot-Kraken, featuring all the standard nerd news you can handle, as well as movie reviews, art talk, con stuff, boozing, and a few untoward elements. Subscribe and review on iTunes if you will! This week we will be recording a session discussing all the entertainment news from SDCC and D23 as well as con reviews and some new film discussion as well.
That’s all for now. Have a great September which is Totally Not the End of Summer in Any Way.
